I honestly believe GM's sedans had never looked less alike (the 1980s Robert Smith "rebadge and file" era being the lowest point) - you would never confuse a G6 with a Malibu, I believe. There is resemblance between Lucerne and the new Malibu, but not much beyond that, and the VE does look a lot like a BMW (for the better only), but that's it, I guess.

I agree it's for the better, and it's not like sharing design ideas is anything new, Chrysler/DeSoto and Studebaker/Packard (though this was done of necessity). Since many exterior panels are now of composite materials, perhaps it is cost-conscious to produce a variety of designs. I need to get out to see more dealers. I haven't needed another car since 2004, and my current one is at 156,000 miles, just broken-in for a Buick !

Re-badging was by far the worst in the early 2000's.. GM re-badged their U-Body minivans three times! Venture, Montana/Trans Sport, Silhouette. Then the second generation U-Bodies got rebadged four times; Uplander, SV6/Montana, Terazza and Relay. Then there was the Lincoln Mark LT and Ford F-150, and GMC Sierra and Chevy Siverado.. The 1980's weren't much better I guess, but it got a lot worse in the 2000's. GM and Ford seem to be correcting this, but still.. Is there any difference between the Pontiac G5 and Chevy Cobalt? How about the GMC Envoy, Chevy TrailBlazer, Buick Rainier and that Isuzu whatever it is?

I love 50's cars! it was the decade of Rock n' Roll, jet age styling and more chrome than ever before!

To Bravada: I don't agree with saying the GNX was a bad looking car. It was probably one of the best cars of the 80's and holds a soft spot to mine and alot of other people's hearts. But you do have an opinion and I respect that.
Now that that's out of the way... I think all of the decades have alot of nice cars to offer. I don't much care for alot of the newer styling (I prefer the old square look) I think that the 2000's would be my favorite decade for cars since fuel economy and horse power for the most part go hand-in-hand. I.E. You can buy a Corvette that gets almost 30MPG's and a Silverado that can get over 20. Besides how many cars sold in the US get over 30 MPG's and have less than 100 horses? NONE. Sorry to be biased towards the US but I don't have an opinion about cars in places that I havent been.

For me-the 60's. Mustang was born, so many nice muscle cars, as well as good Aussie cars-70's a close second by 1mm

For me its been the recent 2000s. Essentially its what ive grown up with but there have been some really nice absolutely stunning and some times insane designs. Especially with concepts. But there have been a lot of exceptionally good production cars.

Same here. I hardly care about brandnew vehicles and my own definition is "brandnew = anything 1990 onwards".

I kind of live in the 1950s, having predominantly 50s furniture in my housing and office, wearing 50s clothes, listening to 1950s music, collecting 50s stuff etc. etc. Maybe I was just born 35 years too late, but I keep compensating as far as possible. And it all started out because of my enthusiasm for the cars of that era.

The 80s for me, though the 70s is a close second. I don't know why, but I just love "box" shaped cars. The swoopy angular cars of today just look like ugly blobs to me.

Cool, I predicted in my first post to this thread that the 60s or the 80s would come out on top! (My vote was for the 50s.)

I'm not sure which decade is my favourite for cars, but I know it's not the 80s, if we're talking about European market cars (which can include Japanese cars). So many, plasticky, boxy, drab cars were made in the 80s. But for some reason (and I'm not trying to appease the Americans here) I think 80s American cars looked OK (although they also had plenty of junk as well), not works of art but the styling of the 80s looks better with larger cars like Cadillacs. Whereas something like the 80s Ford Fiesta just looks like a flimsy little shoebox.

I agree completely, bigger cars look nice with boxy styling, but a lot of little cars don't. I think my big Mercury Marquis looks quite elegant styled that way, like a limo or a chauffer's car. But a little econo-box from the 80s, like say a Honda Civic, doesn't look like much of anything at all.

I voted for the 60ies, because then, also in the 50ies, the most cars had an unique styling. A lot of "design-icones" were created then. This goes -in my opinion- for European and American cars (o.k., I dislike the most British cars of that time, but this is annother thing).

Later on, the car-design was getting more uniform (or the orign shapes of the 60ies were changed more and more during the production).

As I wrote, somewhere before, I lost my interest in cars, when they got plastic bumpers. I remember, that I decided it by myself around 1983. Important reasons for that strict decision ("Until right now, than it's over") were the VW Golf II, the Mercedes 190 [W201], the Citroen BX and the 1983' Mazda 626.

The US-versions of several European cars were getting unaccaptable for me after 1974, when they got these ugly safety-bumpers. This ugly bars had destroyed everything.

The US-cars itself -by their design, about the technic I don't think right now- were getting worse, year-by-year after the late 70ies. Even until now, it's not worth to think/discuss about any US-car.
Perhaps some of you cannot agree, but I just write my personal mind.
