Moving to a new server a few months ago and keeping the comment pics on a separate server for sure helped.
Same for the few config tweaks to force it to use more memory for requests caching (maybe a little too much, I should change that again a little), as unused memory is wasted anyway
From time to time there seem to be slowdowns, I assume it is when the site is under load of agressive bots (as they are still there).
Some day I should try to make something to limit them automatically. I lowered the priority of that since problems seemed to be gone, but if they come back I should go back to that idea.
