On and off road?

On-Road for sure Yes, Off-Road in 4WD-high-Range for sure Yes. Assuming the Chevy has a stock motor with no after-market modifications. :ddr555:

Does your Expedition have any after-market upgrades? Just wondering.
22/08/2007 @ 22:08:52: Neptune: Poll: American cars
No, it’s all factory stock. I’m not a fan of after-market mods. (Plus I don’t want to void the Extended Warranty  ) It performs well for a "Out-Of-Box" vehicle, I have no complaints. The 300+ hp 5.4 Triton V8 more than powerful enough for me. Its Off-Road ability is good considering how heavy the Expo is. Also for a SUV, it actually fun to drive. I see no need to change anything.

But the Expedition isn’t perfect. It does have its problems (design wise) There’s nothing I can do about that. But its Pros out weigh its Cons.

Ford’s Triton engine family (both the 4.6 and 5.4) were listed in the Worlds Top 10 Best engines.

What were the other ones?

The Triton V8 in my Dad's F-150 is far from sluggish. It sounds great, can tow very heavy loads and is far from slow.

The list continually changes from time to time, as newer better engines are introduced, but the last time I saw an official Worlds Top 10 Best Automotive Engine List; BMW, Honda, Ford, GM and Toyota dominated the majority of the list, though there were others also.

The Ford "Triton" family of engines has been in just about every new compilation of the list. Proving their refinement, fit & finish, performance, efficiency and reliability qualities are far superior than your average engine.

I think I remember that Nissan/Infiniti was on the list for the VQ or VG engine.

I was indeed expecting BMW & Honda there  (hence my question)

This is Ward's list of the world's 10 best engines an Gm is not on the list.

Buick's Fireball V6 should be on the current list since it's still in production!
24/08/2007 @ 06:40:52: MBSL65fan: Poll: American cars
The Buick 3800 engine was on that list, but only for the 20th century. Cadillac's Northstar used to be on the list too.

Ward's list is little more than opinion. They say "Ward's editors evaluate each engine according to a number of objective and subjective criteria in everyday driving situations – there is no instrumented testing" Bottom line: its seat of the pants opinion.

There should be a list of the 10 most reliable car engines (or at lease engine that do not require a lot of maintenence.) If there was one though, the Japanese would take over most of the list.

I think that some of the old Peugeot engines could go in the list too then (cf the old cars still running in Africa).
Do not forget some of the old Mercedes too.

The most most reliable engine I have owned is the Volvo B18. Second place goes to the Toyota 22R. Third is the Chrysler Slant 6.

The "TU3" 1.4 engine from Peugeot is quite reliable, and is one of the most used for small PSA cars

It was in the Peugeot 205 on which I learned to drive, on my first car - Peugeot 106 -, and also on my current 206 SW

Without a doubt the General Motors Small-block 350 V8 would have to go on that list. There was even a marine version of it that was made for boats.
