On the subject of vintage models, a 1958 American insurance company produced driver training film. Uses stop-motion animation with 1930s-40s miniatures.

Interesting, that. Most if not all of the cars appear to be Dinky Toys 39 series - I owned all of them when I was a kid. I don't recognise the trucks, though.

The trucks could be Ulrich models. I'm no expert at this, but Model Railroader of the 50s and 60s included advertisements for the products.

24/12/2007 @ 00:19:42: antp: How many of us collect scale model cars and dioramas in general?
Yes F4 was used in late 70s, Fourgonnette was for earlier models.

I wish someone would make a Maserati Biturbo in 1/18 scale. I had a 1/43, but someone broke into my cabinet and smashed it somehow

Wow! You guys do great work! Love the diaramams!

I collect 1:18, 1:24, 1:64 diecast. It gets to be very pricey after a while so I've toned down quite a bit. I mostly do muscle cars but I like some foreign cars as well.

Lately I've been looking at my collection of 1:24 plastic model cars and making them into movie cars. So far, I've done the red early 70s Trans Am from the movie Cannonball (Starring David Caradine, not Burt Reynolds) and have almost finished the van from Gumball Rally that can hold 200 gallons of gas. I just need to make some driving lights for that van.

Other cars in the future that I already have the models for will be from the Gumball rally: Franco's red Ferrari Daytona and the yellow Camaro belonging to Mr. Guts, maybe the blue 427 Cobra, the Mad Max Interceptor, the custom Corvette from Corvette Summer, possibly a modernized version of the Smokey and the Bandit car with a Pro Charger supercharger system, the black 55 Chevy and the yellow roadster from American Graffiti, possibly the 55 Chevy from Two Lane Black top. Possibly the 2 cars from Grease driven by the Scorpions and John Travolta.

Non movie realted I will make a 1:24 scale replica driven by Brock Yates in the real original road race Cannonball: Sea to Shining Sea that inspired the movies Gumball Rally and Cannonball Run.

I've been building my own models, and collecting those of others, for over 30 years.

Here are some samples of my scratch builts:

And some kit-bashed classics:

QUESTION:
I can post ImageShack's thumbnails and links successfully to the movie pages, but not to the forum here. The links show up as plain text. What am I doing wrong?

If you post the link named "thumbnail for forums (1)" it should work on both (it is the one recommended for the site too, in case you were using another)

I did when I was a child, I mostly looked for 1:43 scale cars made by Dinky Toys. But I never had that many (about 20 or so, a mix of British and American Fords and a few other things) and I guess I eventually lost interest in collecting them. I still have them though (in a plastic display case). I also had (actually I still have them) 3 1:18 scale Burago models, a yellow Jaguar E-Type convertible, a 1936 Mercedes 500K Roadster and a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO.

In earlier years I probably spent way more money for scale model cars than I later payed for many of my real cars. *gg* My favourite scale was 1:87 and my daily "goals" were finding model cars you couldn´t buy in every German store.

About 10 years ago, I abandoned that collection, for you can´t do everything. Brochures, magazines, books, several real cars in the garage, tons of paper inside the house/ the office... And many, many scale cars as well. During a kind of "cleaning process", the scale cars had to go for good. :ohwell:

But I still love scale cars, quite often feel tempted to re-start a collection again... I still read scale model magazines from time to time and I find myself quite often browsing the websites of scale car manufacturers or collectors. So you might say: I don´t collect them any more, but I never lost track. :clindoeil:

P.S.: And yes, I´m with Leoz, stating that I´m a big kid as well.

As a school-boy I've collected the 1:87-scale WIKING-models. A lot of them I've bought on flea-markets and at collector's store. I still have nine plastic-boards full with them (ca.400), but actually I haven't found a place to hang them.
In the early 90ies my interest in them was going back. They got more and more expensive and I've spend my money and time in my first real car (K 70, for sure  ) and the work in the K 70-enthusiasts-club.

I'm collectiing heavily K 70-literature - but strictly no toy-K 70ies. May sound strange, but I've seen, that the collections of my friends are very big, so my chance is not good to reach them. So I've decided to be concentrated just on the literature. If I find sometimes a K 70-scale model for a good price, I buy it and give to my friends for the same price.

I own only two K 70-scale-models, a red 1:87 WIKING (I got from a neighbour, when I was 3 years old) and a greenmtallic 1:66 Majorette with Sterckeman-camping-trailer, which I got as a 5-year-old boy.

My other toy-cars of my childhood, mainly SIKU, Majorette, some Matchbox, Corgi and others, too, are still existing. Not in good condition, because played with, but still alive.
